Why YouTube gets blocked
Schools, universities and offices block YouTube for bandwidth and focus reasons, usually one of two ways: DNS filtering (youtube.com simply doesn't resolve) or firewall rules on the network. Some countries also throttle or block it at ISP level. The method that works for you depends on which kind of block you're behind — so try the cheap fixes first.

Start with DNS — if the block is DNS-level, switching your device's DNS to 1.1.1.1 fixes it in one minute for free. If that fails, the block is deeper and you need traffic to leave the network through another endpoint: methods 2–5.
The video problem with free methods
A YouTube page weighs a couple of megabytes; a 1080p stream pulls several megabits continuously for the length of the video.
